WYSH: Burglars pose as utility workers to get into home

Information from WYSH Radio

The Clinton Police Department is investigating a theft from a home on Eagle Bend Road in which the perpetrators posed as utility workers to get inside.

The incident happened Friday morning, and the victim told officers that a man and a woman had come to her house and told her that the “utility company” was going to be doing some work in her yard and they wanted her to come outside to discuss it.

When the female suspect noticed that the homeowner was not wearing shoes, she offered to come inside and show her the work area from the kitchen window. The woman turned on the water in the kitchen sink and would not let the homeowner leave the room and after about five minutes, she left.

After their departure, the woman checked her house and discovered that a fur coat, two rings, and a bracelet had been stolen. She theorized that the male suspect had come in while the female distracted her and stolen the items. Both suspects wore ball caps and drove a white SUV.

Officials want to remind residents that if someone comes to their door claiming to represent a utility, they should check their credentials, and if they still have doubts, they should call the organization the person claims to represent in order to verify their story.
