Woman reports stranger in home, police find insufficient evidence to confirm

Police had insufficient evidence to either prove or disprove a report that a woman returned home to find an unknown man in a South Beverly Circle house on Tuesday afternoon and might have been injured by him, a spokesman said Wednesday.

The Oak Ridge Police Department received a call at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday that a woman had returned to the house in west Oak Ridge and was surprised by the man inside.

On Wednesday, ORPD Lt. Robin Smith confirmed that the police responded to the call, and they got a victim statement. But they didn’t find evidence of the reported incident, he said.

“I’m not saying it didn’t happen,” Smith said. “We just don’t have any evidence to say that it did.”

Asked about reports of possible injuries to the woman during the incident, Smith said she was not treated for injuries. Police did not find anyone in the home. Smith said an incident report could be available Thursday.

The Tuesday report from South Beverly Circle comes just a few days after a Friday morning call of a home invasion on Butler Road, just down the street from this week’s alleged incident. But the Friday morning call was different, Smith said. Authorities later determined it to be a hoax, although administrators at nearby Linden Elementary School were notified as a precaution.

An incident report made available Wednesday said the alleged victim in the Friday morning incident on Butler Road reported that 64 hydrocodone pills had been stolen after two suspects entered the home and demanded drugs while holding him at gunpoint.

More information will be added as it becomes available.

Ok, this looks like someone coming to these houses to receive money and/or drugs.
Who gets prescriptions for 64+ hydrocodone pills? No doctor I know does that. These home invasions are more that likely not random.

It appears, since Friday’s incident was a hoax, that there was no theft of pills.

Reading between the lines and speculating, perhaps someone new to the game of ‘scripting and selling’ felt this might be a way to ‘double up’ for a bit. There are other, more altruistic reasons a person might risk ‘doubling up’, but I’m sure that’s a far lower percentage than those who do it for cash and kicks.

Pills could’ve been from scipts for multiple people at the residence, to explain the high count query.

Note: the school did an excellent job during Friday’s event.
