The Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church will dedicate its new church today (Sunday, October 19), and the community is invited, a press release said.

The new church is at 809 Oak Ridge Turnpike. The church moved from its former location at Robertsville Road and Oak Ridge Turnpike to make way for the new Kroger Marketplace shopping center.

The UU Church has been used for a range of community events including League of Women Voters of Oak Ridge and Breakfast Rotary Club of Oak Ridge.

The press release said today’s service will begin at 4 p.m. Pianist Mary Hook will begin playing at 3 p.m.

After nearly six decades at 1500 Oak Ridge Turnpike, the church moved to its new location in late September, the release said. The first service was held on Sunday, October 5.

Two years ago, in the fall of 2012, the congregation voted to accept an offer from Kroger to purchase their property and historic building.

“People have really pulled together, and accomplished something wonderful, in the name of love,” Minister Jake Morrill said. “We intend to use the opportunity of a new building to find new ways to serve our neighbors.”

Refreshments will be served following today’s dedication service. For more information, contact the church office at (865) 483-6761.
