An Andersonville man has been charged with murder in a shooting that allegedly killed his girlfriend’s mother early Wednesday, authorities said.

William James McMillan, 48, is accused of fatally shooting Karen Zahrobsky, 66, according to authorities. They said McMillan, Zahrobsky, and Zahrobsky’s daughter, Christin Dixon, 45, all lived at 460 Lone Mountain Road in Andersonville, where the shooting allegedly occurred.

The shooting was reported at about 4:45 a.m. Wednesday. Zahrobsky was dead when deputies arrived.

McMillan was charged by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, which helped investigate. McMillan was booked into the Anderson County Detention Facility in Clinton, and he is being held on $625,000.00 bond.

He has been charged with first-degree murder, voluntary manslaughter, and aggravated assault.

“Sheriff’s investigators worked throughout the day and evening with agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation processing the crime scene and conducting interviews,” Anderson County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Mark Lucas said in a statement Thursday morning.

The TBI said the victim’s daughter (Dixon) called 911 to report a disturbance with her boyfriend at the home on Lone Mountain Road, and she said her mother was injured.

“When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the victim deceased from a gunshot wound,” the TBI said.

During the subsequent investigation, agents developed information that McMillan was the person responsible for the Zahrobsky’s death, the TBI said.

The TBI obtained warrants, and McMillan was formally charged late Wednesday night, Lucas said.

“As this is still an ongoing investigation, no additional information can be released,” he said. “Our thanks to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for their assistance in this case.”

The TBI said it assisted at the request of Seventh District Attorney General Dave Clark.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
