Police search home, one detained after shots-fired call Tuesday afternoon

 

The Oak Ridge Police Department searched a home in east Oak Ridge after they responded to a shots-fired call and set up a perimeter around a house Tuesday afternoon.

The call was reported at 1:29 p.m. Multiple police units responded, including patrol and K-9 officers, detectives, and the Seventh Judicial District Crime Task Force truck.

Officers couldn’t make contact with the residents at 118 East Arrowwood Road, and they set up a perimeter and sent an entry team, Oak Ridge Police Chief Jim Akagi said.

At about 1:57 p.m., a man came out of the house, Akagi said. He was detained and debriefed, and the house was searched and secured, Akagi said.

The Oak Ridge Police Department asked Glenwood Elementary School, which is nearby, to be secured, Akagi said. That was done out of an abundance of caution, the chief said. It was not a lockdown, and no children were in any danger.

It’s not clear if any shots were fired. No injuries were reported.

It also wasn’t clear if anyone was arrested.

There had been a report that there could be children inside the home, but Akagi said there were no children inside.

Jasmine Freels was helping her mother move things to a shed a few doors down the street when she heard what she thought were two loud shots.

“It was really loud,” Freels said.
