A 25-year-old Oak Ridge man died Monday night after a car crashed into tree stumps on East Wolf Valley Road, overturned into a parked car, and hit a house, authorities said.
The man was identified as Albert W. Brown, 25, of Oak Ridge.
He was a passenger in a 2001 Audi ATQ driven by Mark E. Floer, 52, of Heiskell, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
The THP said Floer was driving the Audi east on East Wolf Valley Road at about 10:45 p.m. Monday when he left the right side of the roadway, hit two tree stumps, overturned and hit a parked 1998 Ford Escape and then a house.
No one was in the Ford Escape.
A THP fatality report said Floer and Brown were not using seat belts. The report said they had been drinking, and tests have been requested, which is routine in fatal crashes.
The THP report said seat belts would have made a difference.
Floer was injured in the crash, authorities said. He was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, according to Anderson County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Mark Lucas.
Criminal charges are pending, according to the THP.
The crash was investigated by THP Trooper Aaron McGhee.
The fatal crash was reported at 1249 East Wolf Valley Road, east of Clinton. East Wolf Valley Road is east of Oak Ridge, running between Clinton Highway and U.S. 441 (Norris Freeway) in Anderson County.
It was one of two serious crashes reported in Anderson County on Monday.
The other, a two-vehicle crash, was reported at about 9:30 p.m. Monday on Yarnell Road near East Wolf Valley Road. Lucas said three people were injured in that crash, and all three were taken to the UT Medical Center by ambulance.
The THP responded to both crashes, and so did the Sheriff’s Department, Anderson County EMS, Anderson County Rescue Squad, Andersonville Fire Department, and Claxton Fire Department.
