At the February meeting of Women’s Interfaith Dialogue, Gay Marie Logsdon will give a presentation about taking charge as a medical advocate.
The meeting will be held on Monday, February 3, at the Jewish Congregation of Oak Ridge, 101 West Madison Lane, with an opening reception at 10:45 a.m. and program at 11 a.m., a press release said.
Logsdon’s presentation is based on her own experience as well as that of family and friends over more than 30 years, the press release said.
“The urgency to speak about medical advocacy grew out of months of in-patient and out-patient medical care, torrents of insurance claims, and gradual recovery following a head-on car wreck in 2016,” the press release said.
Logsdon has a doctorate in English, and she has taught writing, literature, and English language at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tennessee Valley Authority, University of Texas, University of Tennessee, and other venues in this country and abroad. She retired from ORNL after serving as a technical editor and writer in the Environmental Sciences Division for more than 16 years, the press release said.
After retiring, she revived her aquatic and safety skills by working out with Swimmin’ Wimmin’ and obtaining recertification from Red Cross to be a lifeguard and to teach swimming, CPR, AED, and first aid in the area, the press release said.
Women’s Interfaith Dialogue brings together women of diverse faith, color, and culture to explore, understand, and learn from one another for the purpose of advancing justice, compassion, friendship, and human rights with a focus on women and children, the press release said. All are welcome.
